Remember Avenue Des Arts the gallery founded by husband and wife Jennifer Duval and Dimitri Lorin that began in Hong Kong and moved to Los Angeles. I noticed Avenue des Arts in early 2019 at their Los Angeles Location (the same location as the future Lorin Gallery) when a pivot from supporting street art to emerging artists occurred. When Avenue des Arts closed, it was silent. Other than bounced emails, there wasn’t a notification of the gallery closing.
Time passed a new gallery was founded by Dimitri Lorin and Jennifer Lorin “Lorin Gallery”, a gallery that focuses on displaying emerging artists while broadening its audience by collaborating with League Oto, Proyectos Sabrosos, and other curators and emerging art groups. Displaying newly found artists such as Kenkut, Bijijoo, Socko, LY, Christina Allan, and prominent emerging artists, Larissa de Jesus Negron, Kyle Orlando, Elena Redmond, and Kathryn Kampovsky. Collectors kept their eyes peeled to see what would be displayed within this gallery; it felt that an artist you know could display their art one day at one of Lorin Gallery’s locations. The hype for the gallery soon became synonymous with the art displayed & and as a spectator it became difficult to see if the gallery would be able to survive without another pivot; my opinion stems from recent results of auctions of artists previously displayed at Lorin Gallery.
The Lorin Gallery Podcast debuted on March 19th, 2023 and only has a single episode. The latest group exhibition “All Together” displayed at their Downtown, LA location opened June 24th, 2023, and closed August 27th 2023. After the exhibition, little was said about Lorin Gallery.
Months come to pass and a month ago I started to hear and notice maybe the gallery was closing.
I reached out to Dimitri to see if a formal answer could be provided, but he declined to speak on the matter.
It seems that Lorin Gallery has shut its doors, although never officially posted or addressed by the gallery; nothing online states that the gallery is closed, but all phone lines previously connecting directly to Lorin Gallery are disconnected. Unlike previously during the closing of Avenue des Arts all email’s are still delivering; not bouncing and returning to sender. Lorin Gallery has supported many artists’ early careers; I wonder what is next to come if anything from the gallery.
~Information about the specific reasoning behind the gallery closing or if officially closed has yet to be disclosed or addressed by Founders of Lorin Gallery.
