Anna Wintour Gives Exclusive Sneak Peek of Met Gala Exhibition: "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty
Anna Wintour, the legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue and co-chair of the Met Gala, recently sat down with Gayle King for an exclusive interview ahead of fashion’s biggest night. During the interview, Wintour provided a sneak peek of this year’s exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, curated by Andrew Bolton and featuring designs by the late Karl Lagerfeld.
Wintour has been hosting the Met Gala for nearly three decades, and she emphasized that the night is all about raising money for the Costume Institute’s important work. The gala has become known for its iconic looks and attracts a who’s who of celebrities and newsmakers
This year’s exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” showcases the designer’s legacy and his fingerprint on fashion. Lagerfeld spent 65 years in the fashion industry, and Bolton focused on his creativity and sketches for the exhibition.
During the preview, CBS saw Lagerfeld’s sketches, including a dance he drew every morning. Days later, the team returned to see the designer’s desk staged as it appeared in his last official photograph for Vogue. The exhibition features designs from Lagerfeld’s time at Chloe, Chanel, Fendi, and his label.
Wintour even tried on one of Lagerfeld’s designs, which she wore to a steak dinner in Washington for President Macron. The craftsmanship of the garments is extraordinary, and Bolton went through over ten thousand pieces before narrowing it down to 200 for the exhibition.
Overall, Wintour emphasized that Lagerfeld’s work deserves celebration, and this year’s exhibition is a fitting tribute to the late designer’s incredible career. The Met Gala and its accompanying exhibition continue to be a highlight of the fashion industry, and this year’s event promises to be just as spectacular as previous years.
