Security features include advanced encryption and biometric authentication to protect user data and ensure only the rightful owner can access the digital ID.
Additional concerns include the lack of integration with Apple Wallet, limited use cases primarily at TSA checkpoints, privacy issues similar to other smart ID programs, and the need for a physical ID to activate the mobile ID.
The app requires biometric authentication or a six-digit PIN to unlock. As stated on the New York DMV website “the MiD app is free and optional for New York residents to download.”
