New York’s Tap City Festival is Canceled

Tap City, the annual New York City Tap Festival, has been canceled for 2024 due to financial challenges faced by the American Tap Foundation.

The American Tap Foundation is facing significant financial challenges in 2024. Despite receiving emergency funding, the lingering effects of the pandemic created financial difficulties. This has to the closure of the American Tap Dance Center, previously located at 154 Christopher Street in New York City, closed its doors on June 30.

A special event will take place at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center on Thursday July 11th , to celebrate the commencement.

Tap City, the New York City Tap Festival, was launched in 2001 and is held annually each summer for about one week. Tap festival is dedicated to the art form of tap dance, providing opportunities for dancers of all ages and skill levels to learn from some of the best tap dancers in the world. Notable performers over the years include tap legends such as Brenda Bufalino, Savion Glover, and Jason Samuels Smith.

The festival often includes performances, workshops, and masterclasses, with standout annual shows featuring both established and emerging tap dance artists. Tap City has played a significant role in preserving and promoting the tradition of tap dance.
