Extinction Rebellion an activist group primarily focused on the funding and uses of greenhouse gases, fossil fuels and the aknologing the destruction and causes of these resources.
During New York’s heat wave, Wednesday at 1pm Extinction Rebellion engaged with the public encouraging interactions with their Carnival of Collapse intended to be a “whimsical and witty attraction to engage and entertain the public.” Although whimsical, the action called for the public to acknowledge Publicis Sapients funding towards the usage of Fossil Fuels and greenhouse gasses.

Those who interacted with the carnival could choose to have their fortunes told by Madame Methane, participate in a beanbag toss that could allow you to earn a “bitcoin”, or play “Pin the Spill on the Ecosystem.” While simultaneously handing out informative content towards there reasoning behind their theatrical motives and intentional choices. During the show members of Extinction Rebellion began to lock themselves onto rotating doors outside and inside of the entrance. Unnoticed initially by guards, this action began preventing access into the building.
Throughout this period demonstrators continued to occupy space and chant. During their chants. A few child members gained access to the interior facilities and NYPD were quick to arrest these children and onlookers began to question the motives behind arresting these children.
By the end of this demonstration approximately 8 demonstrators were arrested.
