This past week a phenomena of disinformation and propaganda has spread throughout social media platforms (Instagram, Tik-Tok and Youtube). These video’s captions claim to show a large community of Haitians “fighting/brawling with ICE” in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
As ICE raids and court kidnappings leading to deportations have been a reoccurring topic gaining the public’s attention and causing massive protests. These specific video’s began to circulate after Trump officials attempted to end deportation protections for 500,000+ Haitian immigrants living in the United States.
The video’s claiming Haitian communities in Brooklyn fought against ICE began to appear after a video of a Chicago community fighting against ICE surfaced hours prior although claimed to be originally filmed on June 6, 2025 a month prior to claims of Haitians in Brooklyn.
There are two angles of this supposed event in Brooklyn, one recorded from an apartment’s window on Nordstand and Avenue D pointing down at a large group of Haitian people on the street of Brooklyn playing music and cheering, while celebrating Haitian Flag Day.
Haitian Flag Day An event which took place on 1768 Nostrand Avenue. The same street as the “Haitians vs. ICE” event. Concluding to the fact that the brawl event never happened and the videos were reused.
Although progressive Instagram page , 50501movement, “a grassroots movement, and all local events are organized by independent volunteers. Shared the same video furthering the endorsement of this false claim. Understanding that 50501 claimed that ” Movement members should do their own due diligence before participating in any action” they actively participated in propaganda and violence towards Little Haiti & Haitian communities by not fact checking information that they participated in sharing.
Another angle of Haitian Flag Day that is being misconstrued is captured from the street view where it shows a person in conversation with NYPD Community Affairs & NYPD officers. Both videos are displaying the same event taking place from different angles.
Neither of these videos that take place in Brooklyn show any form of violence, discord or presence of ICE.
Announcement from Department of Homeland Security– June 27, 2025 – “Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem today announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. The TPS designation for the country expires on Aug. 3, 2025, and the termination will be effective on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.“
Disinformation being spread is not only dangerous but hurtful to communities affected as The President has already made claims this weekend that Ice Agents are “under daily violent assault” and has called for “Remigration“.
As of 6/7 50501movement has removed their affiliation with the initial post. 50501movement has not publicly addressed, clarified or informed the public about the matter.
