The Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) in New York, established in 2013 to showcase and promote modern Italian art, has announced its closing on June 22nd.
CIMA, the Center for Italian Modern Art, was an art museum and research center in SoHo, Manhattan. Founded by Laura Mattioli, specializing in Italian modern and contemporary art. Known for its guided tours by scholars, it significantly contributed to the promotion and research of modern Italian art. The museum was located at 421 Broome St, 4th floor, New York, and was open mainly on Friday and Saturday.
Known for curated exhibitions and scholarly residencies,CIMA provided a rich platform celebrating artists like Giorgio Morandi and Alberto Savinio. Despite efforts to sustain funding, financial challenges have led to its closure.
The Center for Italian Modern Art’s final Exhibition ‘Nanni Balestrini: Art as Political Action One Thousand and One Voices’ will be on display until the closure of CIMA on June 22.
