The DAG Foundation has outlined specific criteria for early-career writers to qualify for its $20,000 prize. Applications open on February 1, 2025, and close March 15, 2025, at 11:59 PM.
Eligibility Requirements
1. First Book:
• Must have published one book of prose with a nationally distributed U.S. press.
• Self-published, online, or non-English books do not qualify.
2. Second Book:
• Must be a prose project substantially underway and intended for U.S. publication in English.
3. Residency:
• Must reside in the U.S. by the application deadline.
4. Awards Restrictions:
• Writers with major accolades (e.g., Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award) are not eligible.
5. Publication Limit:
• Writers with a second book published or under contract by the deadline are ineligible.
6. No Nominations:
• Applications must be submitted directly by the writer, not through third parties.
Application Materials
• Author Bio (250 words max).
• Information About First Book: Finalists must submit copies in April.
• CV/Résumé (3 pages max).
• New Project Description: Overview, artistic innovations, and timeline (500 words max).
• Project Excerpt (25 pages max).
Note: Letters of support will not be accepted.
